6 inch wheel history 2 of 2
 As OPTI Kinetics' first high powered projector was
the Solar 575, effects suitable for use on this projector
were made '575 Safe' and the '575 tick' logo applied
to both the product and the packaging. Although the
Solar 575 was replaced by the more compact K4 the
'575 Safe' adjunct has stuck.

Effect Wheel images are either
screen printed or have a full
colour transparency laminated
onto toughened glass, with an
arrised edge for safety.
Transparencies are laminated
with the emulsion side of the film
outermost, in a process used on
aviation flight controls, to ensure
longest possible image life. A
metal spacer disc is then glued
to the centre of the printed or
film side and a plain
polycarbonate disc glued to that to protect the surface of
the image on the glass. This also creates an air space
which allows the flow of air from the projector gate to cool
the surface of the colour media as it rotates.
 Apart from the obvious advantage of durability of 575 Safe' wheels in higher
powered projectors this type also tend, because of the rigidity of glass, to run
truer for focus. Also up until the recent introduction of our new plastic 'pushon'
boss the thread for the fixing screw on the metal hub was more durable than
that of the plastic type. '575 Safe' 6 inch Effect wheels are far superior to plastic
versions for focus, durability, longevity and adaptability of use in different
projectors.
The entire OPTI Kinetics Range of 6 inch Effect Wheels is offered in '575 Safe'
as standard.
An exception was made in the 'special needs' sector which only tends to use
the lower powered OPTI Solar 250 and Solar 100C Effect Projectors. Plastic
versions of selected designs have continued to be produced for this market,
only to be used on OPTI Solar 250 and Solar 100C Effect Projectors. Certain
titles in our range are not suitable for, and therefore not sold to, the special
needs market. These are not offered in plastic versions.
There are separate stock codes for '575 Safe' and plastic versions of OPTI
Kinetics 6 inch Effect Wheels.
